I have an addiction to Coca-Cola. I’ve given it up a few times, and I always end up going back. My father had the same habit. He was a professor and one of his former students once told me that he ranted in class because they were in a building that didn’t have a Coke machine. The class got together and bought him a case.
When he gave up the habit, he banned Coke from his house.
My particular weakness is the movies. I love going to movies, and when I do I get a Coke and popcorn. That’s a whole lot of sugar, salt and useless calories right there.
On our recent road trip across Ontario I was drinking a lot of Coke, partly because options are limited when you’re eating mostly fast food and partly for the caffeine.
So my focus is on water, my morning coffee (which I take black), and green tea, which I have found to be a nice, tasty thing to add to my diet.
I know how terrible it is, how much sugar it is and I know that when I give it up for a little while I even lost a taste for it, so why keep going back?
Habit. That’s all it is. A habit to break out of.
