As you know, Losing it in Ottawa is going through some major changes. Recently, seven of our regular contributors decided to move on due to other commitments that made it too difficult to continue contributing to the blog. Two of the seven were Lara and myself, which some may find interesting.
As Lara mentioned in her last post (as a regular contributor), this was never meant to be a site that we’d all continue with indefinitely. We want the community to grow and evolve and take on a life of its own apart from the people who started it and we’ve been successful in achieving this goal to date.
One concern that both Lara and I had when we simultaneously made the difficult decision to leave our blogger role was how we’d continue to keep the community going if we didn’t have time to put in that effort. As the weeks went by, we identified someone who is already a huge part of the Losing it in Ottawa community. She is everyone’s cheerleader, confidant, coach. She’s been incredibly successful on her own weight loss journey and looks absolutely fabulous!
When she shares in the Facebook group, she types the way she talks. This woman is genuine with a capital G-E-N-U-I-N-E. I know this because I finally got to meet her this past weekend. I’ve known her online for over a year since she first guest-posted for us and I knew after I read that first post that she would be wonderful to know in person and I wasn’t wrong. If you participate in the Facebook group (and if you don’t, you should – just ask to join), you know that Katie is always there to lend her support and a helping hand or kind word for whatever’s happening. She believes in and is invested in our community 100% and her energy is infectious.
I’m very happy to let you all know that Lara and I have asked Katie Squires to be the LIO Community Manager, which is a fancy way of saying that she’s going to do what she’s already been doing with a formal title so people know who to contact with questions or ideas. There’s a bit more to it than that, but that’s the Cole’s notes version for you.
Tomorrow, Katie’s going to introduce herself and talk about her personal journey to this point, as well as her ongoing goals. We’re very excited to have her on board to lead this community into this next new and exciting phase!
In addition to Katie, six more bloggers will be coming on board to fill the current open spots. You’ll get the chance to meet them over the next couple of weeks as well. Lara and I are excited about the changes that are coming and we hope you are too!
